HISTOIRE de BARBARA Lingerie - OUR HISTORY

Histoire d'une entreprise qui jouit d'une notoriété mondiale. En anticipant les changements et les modes, le groupe Barbara s'est forgé une réputation internationale dans le secteur de la lingerie haut de gamme, combinant créativité et confort, luxe et sensualité, jusque dans les grandes tailles.

The story of a company which enjoys a worldwide reputation. By anticipating changes and fashion trends, the Group has forged a reputation in over 70 countries as French designer of upscale lingerie and swimwear, combining creativity and comfort, luxury and sensuality, even in large sizes.

MARCEL BENA 1926-1945
1926 Marcel Béna crée une société en nom propre, de fabrication de tricot tulle pour corsets, et installe son atelier dans son appartement à Pantin, près de Paris.
1944 Apparition de la marque BARBARA. Son propriétaire Charles Fossez, dit " le Fakir BIRMAN ", astrologue, star du " tout Paris ", homme doué d'un sens commercial hors du commun, vend, par correspondance, les produits fabriqués par l'entreprise Marcel Béna. Ainsi naît la 1ère gaine Barbara

1926 Marcel Béna creates his company, manufacturing elastic tulle knit fabrics, then corsets in 1940, and sets up its workshop in Pantin, close to Paris
1944 First use of the BARBARA brand. Its owner Charles Fossez, called the " Burmese Fakir " (a famous astrologist of the time) markets successfully the products made by Marcel Béna company, through mail order. The first Barbara girdle appears on the market.

GILBERT BENA 1945-1978
1945 Arrivée dans l'entreprise de Gilbert Béna, qui prendra la direction en 1955. Véritable homme d'affaires, il va transformer l'entreprise familiale en entreprise industrielle.
1952 Au décès de Charles FOSSEZ, la société reprend la marque BARBARA.
1967 La société des Etablissements Marcel Béna change de nom, et devient BARBARA S.A.
1968 Le chiffre d'affaires atteint 10 Millions de Francs et l'entreprise emploie 150 personnes.
1972 Lancement de la 1ère gamme de soutiens-gorge et slips.

1945 Gilbert Béna enters the family business, becoming chairman in 1955. Being a business man, he will turn the family business into an industrial company.
1952 Death of Charles FOSSEZ, the company takes over the BARBARA brand.
1967 The company of Etablissements Marcel Béna changes its name to become BARBARA S.A.
1968 Barbara S.A. achieves 10 Millions Francs turnover and employs over150 people.
1972 Launch of bras and pants ranges.

JEAN-JACQUES BENA 1978-2005
1978 Jean-Jacques Béna intègre la société (31 Millions de Francs de chiffre d'affaires) et prend la direction en 1981.
1999 BARBARA rachète la marque de lingerie de luxe RAVAGE, marque lyonnaise haut de gamme. Ainsi naît l'un des derniers groupes indépendants de lingerie française : le Groupe BARBARA.
2000 Lancement des maillots de bain BARBARA

1978 Jean-Jacques Béna joins the company (31 Millions Francs turnover), of which he becomes chairman in 1981.
1999 BARBARA S.A. buys over the luxury RAVAGE brand, from Lyon city, France. Thus creating one of the last independent French lingerie companys : the BARBARA Group.
2000 Lauch of BARBARA swimwear.

HUBERT LAFONT Depuis 2006
2006 Début 2006, la majorité du capital est rachetée par NATEXIS PRIVATE EQUITY. Hubert Lafont est nommé Président du Directoire, en remplacement de Jean-Jacques Béna, qui devient Président du Conseil de Surveillance. Il entame le redéploiement au niveau international.
2007 Création d'une filiale aux U.S.A.

2006 In January 2006, a majority of the company equity is sold to a French Private investor (NATEXIS PRIVATE EQUITY). Hubert Lafont becomes C.E.O. whilst Jean-Jacques Béna, is appointed chairman of the board. He re-develops the international business.
2007 Creation of a subsidiary in the U.S.A
